On Thursday 16th November, Medius and Transitus toured the Palace of Westminster, visiting the House of Commons and the House of Lords to further their knowledge of the British parliamentary system.

‘Today, my class and I went to the Houses of Parliament. The building, on the banks of the river Thames, is astonishingly beautiful, with ornate gothic architecture and stained glass windows. The best stained glass window, celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, features a lion and unicorn holding up a coat of arms.

After passing through security, and the cavernous Westminster Hall where Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela spoke- and Charles I was sentenced to death- we entered the viewing gallery for the House of Commons. There is a sheet of glass between the gallery and the members of parliament for security reasons after a member of the public threw glitter on Tony Blair when he was Prime Minister.

Finally, we went to the House of Lords, which we had all to ourselves for ten minutes! I stood a metre away from where King Charles III sits when he makes his visits to the building.

As a class, we were all very privileged to be able to visit this historic building, and hear about all the things that have happened there.’
