On Monday 6th November, Quintus visited the Ragged School Museum to discover what life was like for children in the Victorian era.
‘On Monday, we went to the Ragged School Museum. The building used to be a warehouse and was changed into a school by a man called Dr. Thomas Bernardo. We had a lesson in which we learnt about money, in the past they used shillings, pounds, crowns and pence. The person teaching us was Miss Perkins and she taught like a Victorian teacher! We had to write like Victorian children, in cursive, and it was very hard to do on a black board! When children in the Victorian era were at school, there were very strict rules. An example is when people got behind in their work they had to wear the Dunce hat. After lunch we went to see a 3D printed model of a Victorian house. It only had one room which was a bedroom, kitchen dining room and sitting room in one!’ – Arthur, Quintus
